The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is excited to announce Dr. Cheri Simpson as the founding Director of Departmental Initiatives. Cheri will work across UNC and NC State, with a physical role at both Universities. In her new role, Cheri will be responsible for providing high level management of all aspects of departmental strategic initiatives, organizational partnerships, and academic missions. Cheri joined the department in early 2015 and has contributed in a myriad of ways; she will continue to lend her expertise to our department’s strategic efforts.
Cheri brings over twenty-one years of experience in higher education administration, business, and policy to the role. Most recently, Cheri maintained a dual role as Director of Corporate Relations and Associate Director for the Center for Research and Consulting for a higher education association in Washington, DC. As indicated by the CEO of the association, Cheri’s contributions were invaluable to the development and refinement of a corporate relations architecture that provided strategic partnerships and critical financial resources for the association, while simultaneously playing a pivotal role in leading and strengthening the association’s research contributions to the field.
Cheri previously worked as an instructor, research assistant, and event planner at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and taught undergraduate students at the University of Nevada, Reno. She earned a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA with a Graduate Certificate in International Business from Southern New Hampshire University; an MA in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
