Career Development
The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to preparing students for life after graduating from the program, whether they intend to pursue an advanced degree or go straight to industry. Our mission is to educate students about opportunities outside of academics and help them to network and position themselves to pursue these opportunities. We strive to reach this objective through a number of events:
- Professional Networking: information about career-related events as well as internship and full-time job opportunities, are routinely emailed out to students
- Coffees with Preston: small group meetings to get to know each other and talk about proactively pursuing internships and career interests
- Office Hours with Colleen: one-on-one sessions to review and provide feedback on résumés, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles
- Workshops: career-related topics with university and outside professionals are scheduled throughout the year
- Career Panels: alumni are invited to talk about career paths and options for BME graduates
- Local Industry: internship and job opportunities from local companies are brought directly to BME students
