Bio

I love biomedical engineering because it allows us to combine our passions for math, science, and physics to implement solutions that will improve the lives of others. Biomedical engineering also encompasses many different topics so we have an abundance of career options after graduation. Within the Joint Program of Biomedical Engineering, there are five concentrations that are incredibly diverse, so every student can find an area of interest that fits their future career goals. The faculty are also extraordinarily knowledgeable about their field and really care about the well-being of their students. At both NCSU and UNC, many of the BME faculty have their own research labs that are applying cutting-edge science to solve some of the most challenging medical issues in the world. I’m incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities the Joint Program has given me, and I have no doubt that my experiences in BME have molded me into the well-rounded scientist I am today!

For the past three years, I have worked in the Brudno Lab which specializes in a click-chemistry drug delivery system. My research focuses on creating a physiologically-based pharmacokinetic model for this system which has involved both computational work and animal studies. I have also been a member of the Helping Hand Project, a non-profit organization that 3D prints prosthetics for children, since my freshman year and I’m currently the vice president! I’ve also been a teaching assistant for two BME classes, and I really enjoy getting to know and working with the students. Since I am interested in pursuing a career in medicine, I am also a medical assistant for an endocrinology practice in Cary. Outside of school, I love playing/watching soccer (Go Leicester!), drawing, cooking, and playing Settlers of Catan with friends!
