BME Assistant Professor Dr. Jason Franz has been awarded a $50k Pilot Research Grant from the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute for his proposal titled “The peripheral motor repertoire as a neuromuscular constraint on walking balance integrity in age-related falls risk.” This new research is both timely and clinically important – our rapidly aging population is at an exceptionally high risk of debilitating falls which reduces independence and quality of life with an increasingly significant financial burden. With support from this NC TraCS award, Dr. Franz and the Applied Biomechanics Laboratory will introduce a novel neuromuscular mechanism for age-associated balance impairment as a target for diagnostic testing and rehabilitation to prevent falls in older adults. BME Congratulates Dr. Franz and his research team.
