SonoVol, a company run by UNC-NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. graduate Ryan Gessner, was awarded a $1.8 million SBIR grant titled “Development of a mobile and automated platform for multiplexed multi-modality imaging” from the National Institutes of Health. This grant will enable the development of a photoacoustics imaging system and will contribute to their continuing development of novel 3D imaging products in the preclinical oncology, cardiology, and tissue engineering space. SonoVol, which has licensed technology out of BME faculty member Paul Dayton’s lab, is located at the First Flight Venture Center in RTP and has six full time employees, five of which are graduates of UNC or NC State.
