Bio
As an Associate Professor at the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, I am dedicated to guiding the next generation of engineers through the development of innovative medical devices. My role involves mentoring students from concept through prototype, leveraging my extensive experience in medical technology design and development. My work has been recognized internationally, with publications in Nature and prestigious awards including the Da Vinci Award and the President’s Award from the American Society of Biomechanics.
In addition to my academic responsibilities, I am the founder and CEO of Inoculus Ventures, where I lead the development of a novel treatment for dry eye disease. This work is conducted through a university laboratory use agreement, which supports start-ups and fosters innovations emerging from the BME department. This venture underscores my commitment to advancing healthcare and medical technology.
Previously, I spent over a decade as a design engineer at Asensus Surgical, eventually transitioning to an Academic Liaison role. This experience allowed me to bridge academic research with industry innovation, enriching my entrepreneurial efforts and dedication to advancing surgical technologies.
