At this year’s UNC Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony, BME Assistant Professor Andrea Giovannucci received the Student Undergraduate Teaching Award for his time and effort to improve UNC undergraduate students’ education. The Student Undergraduate Teaching and Staff Awards (SUTASA) were established in 1989 to recognize outstanding undergraduate instruction by both faculty and teaching assistants. In 2004, the awards were extended to include a staff award to recognize a staff member’s specific contributions to the undergraduate experience at Carolina. SUTASA are the only teaching and staff awards funded, nominated, and selected entirely by undergraduate students. The committee comprised of students reviews the teaching nominations on the basis of demonstrated and consistent teaching excellence, success in positively affecting a broad spectrum of students both in and outside the classroom, and creation of a dynamic learning environment. Many Congratulations to Prof Giovannucci, who received a plaque, a certificate and a monetary award of $5,000 as part of this honor!
