BME Undergraduate Alum Emily Lambeth, BME Graduate Student Siena Mantooth, mentored by Professor David Zaharoff, and UNC School of Pharmacy Graduate student Isabella Young, mentored by BME Assistant Professor Rahima Benhabbour have received the 2021 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships.

Fellows benefit from a three-year annual stipend along with an allowance for tuition and fees, opportunities for international research, and the ability to conduct research at any U.S. institution they choose. The program is the oldest graduate fellowship of its kind, recognizing outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees.
