The UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is thrilled to announce that its recently-launched UNC/NC State joint undergraduate degree, Biomedical and Health Sciences Engineering (B.S.), has officially received accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.
The Joint Department began the process to accredit the UNC/NC State Biomedical and Health Sciences Engineering bachelor’s degree program in the spring of 2013. This large and complicated task was accomplished by the efforts of all BME faculty and staff as well as select experts from the North Carolina State College of Engineering and UNC-Chapel Hill College of Arts & Sciences. Special acknowledgement for extraordinary hard work and perseverance must go to Dr. Richard Goldberg, Dr. Hatice Ozturk, Dr. Lianne Cartee, and Dr. Cheri Simpson. This critical mass of inter-institutional knowledge, labor, and resources was the key to successfully demonstrating to ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission the innovative, world-class nature of BME’s joint B.S. degree and the high impact knowledge and skills of its students and graduates.
