Lauren Bain, a second year graduate student in Dr. Albena Ivanisevic’s Lab, won the award for Best Paper at the student level, during the 14th International Symposium on MEMS (Microelectromechanical systems) and Nanotechnology Symposium. The winning paper, titled “Biomolecular Gradients via Semiconductor Gradients: Characterization of Amino Acid Adsorption to InxGa1-xN Surfaces” and published by ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, can be read online at http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/am4015555. The paper’s co-authors include Aadhithya Hosalli Mukund of NC State and Dr. Scott Jewett of Affinergy, LLC. In conjunction with this award, Lauren will be organizing and chairing her own session at next year’s MEMS international symposium in Greenville, South Carolina.
